Founded by optometrists Dr Alex and Dr Habiba, Batley Eyecare was established with a passion for providing honest, expert-led eyecare. Dr Alex and Dr Habiba are highly respected in the field, holding advanced qualifications and have been actively involved in training the next generation of optometrists.

Who we are
Dr Alexander Swystun
BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD, Prof Cert Med Ret, Prof Cert Glauc, Higher Cert Glauc, Dip Glauc, DipTP (IP), MCOptom
Dr Alex Swystun graduated from the University of Bradford in 2014. Since then he has completed nationally recognized qualifications and courses in prescribing, glaucoma, medical retina and laser surgery from Universities such as Cardiff, Aston and University College London. He is a member of the College of Optometrists, Chairman of the local optical council, a mentor for his peers and member of various panels for the College of Optometrists. He is also a glaucoma specialist working at York District Hospital and has published numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers. Dr Alex Swystun is one of the country’s leading optometrists and has completed a Doctorate of Philosophy in the management of eye disease in primary care.
In his spare time, he enjoys attempting to play badminton and running through the streets of Batley
Dr Habiba Bham
BSc (Hons), PhD, Prof Cert Med Ret, Prof Cert Glauc, Higher Cert Glauc, MCOptom
Dr Habiba Bham also graduated from the University of Bradford in 2014. Since then she has completed a number of further nationally recognized qualifications in medical retina and glaucoma. In addition to her work at Batley Eyecare she is currently a teaching fellow at the University of Bradford and a contact lens and glaucoma specialist at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
